Used to be run as a 'family' doctor type of practice enabling long term contact between Dr & patent. Over the last few years there have only been 2 longstanding Drs, the others seem to change. They no longer appear to consider interaction between lifestyle of patent & their drugs, nor to consider drug interactions. Often have to request supposusly regular tests even when told these would be necessary. Appointments now have a 2 to 3 week waiting time to see a Dr. And that may well be one who has not seen you before.

I am increasingly worried about the difficulty getting appointment at this surgery where my family has been for more than 40 years. Not only does it seem that it is virtually impossible to get a regular appointment more than two weeks in advance, to get an emergency appointment, as I had to recently when suffering a severe chest infection took more than 3 days (you can call in twice a day and get on the 'drop in' list - this fills up so quickly - not really 'drop in') I saw a doctor but limited to 5 minutes and one issue only. My mother in law who was seriously ill and had to wait for an appointment ended up travelling to a NHS drop in centre (Teddington) and wait for 3 hours before being diagnosed with pneumonia. I also recently had a hip complaint and over the course of 10 months saw 5 different doctors who gave me differing information without any solution. I eventually paid to 'go private' at great expense, but it was so refreshing to see the same doctor who knew the history of my case and within a matter of weeks the issue was diagnosed and treated. I'm really worried that the lack of consistency in seeing a same doctor who understands patient history and who cares about solving health issues is undermining patient care. Am concerned that some serious health complaints will be missed or passed off with treating symptoms not cause.

I have been a patient at The Glenlyn Medical Centre for over 30 years. I am absolutely distraught at the difficulty in getting an appointment. Over the last few years the ability to obtain an appointment has deteriorated dramatically. What beggars belief is that not so long ago this very same surgery was spending money advertising for MORE patients, when it was totally incapable of coping with its existing work load. In an effort to get a confirmed appointment before May (three weeks away), I was told I might "be lucky" if I sit at the surgery all day and hope for a cancellation. Sadly, I think this sums up the Glenlyn Medical Centre - we now have to be lucky to see a Doctor. I am more than a little surprised in the turnover of Doctors at The Glenlyn, - which begs the question - is there something fundamentally wrong with the management of the practice?

I have been a patient at this practice for 20 plus years and in the last 5 years this practice has been shocking, its a shame because it has recently picked up again and has some very nice GP's. Unfortunately this can not be said about the reception staff, they are rude, unhelpful and disrespectful. I am a reception manager myself and if my staff treated people the way they do i would appalled. Just yesterday I called for an emergency appointment only to be told by a machine that i was 25th in the que. I then called back and was 3rd in the que and waited 60 minutes before giving up and putting the phone down. I then went to my local pharmacy to ask for advice. I have called again today and been told that even though i have had severe head pain for 4 days that all appointments have gone for today and i would have to call again tomorrow at 8 and "hopefully you will be able to speak to someone, but there is nothing i can do today". The NHS wonders why A&E department waiting rooms are so crowded, I cannot believe this is a service i pay for every month in my hard earned wages. A total disgrace, maybe they shouldn't be accepting more new patients as they clearly cannot provide a service for the ones they have.

This is the second time I have made an appointment only to be told on arrival at the surgery that the doctor was off sick and that they had left a message on my answerphone phone cancelling the appointment. Both times (the latest today) on returning home there was no message on my answerphone (which I fully expected as I had been at home prior to the appointment on both occasions and the phone did not ring). I find these lies unacceptable from a presumably professional practice.
